The studio

Designed and built in Colorado.

Risu (リス), Japanese for squirrel, reflects a simple principle behind the studio: work thoughtfully with what the forest provides.

Founded by Ryan Laleh, an artist and woodworker, Risu Joinery grew from a lifelong interest in drawing and working by hand. Furniture became a way to turn an idea into something useful, where proportion, material, and small details all matter.

Ryan studied fine woodworking at Red Rocks Community College, where he also served as a teaching assistant for the introductory course. His approach emphasizes carefully fitted joinery and surfaces finished by hand.

Today, he designs and builds Japanese-inspired furniture in solid hardwood. Each piece is made to order from an established design, with a choice of wood, size, and finish.
